Application period for US Capital of Culture 2010 opens today
The International Bureau of Capitals of Culture ( www.ibocc.org) has opened its application period for the US Capital of Culture 2010, which will be the first Capital of Culture in the history of the United States of America (www.culturalcapital.us)
USCC Objective
The objective of the US Capital of Culture (USCC) is to provide a new setting to develop, communicate, promote and encourage local participation in the culture of the USA. The project promotes a better understanding of the US culture within the USA and around the world. It also projects the selected city at both national and international levels, and establishes close collaboration between USCC and other countries and regions around the world, where the concept of Capitals of Culture already exists.
For an application please visit the US Capital of Culture (USCC) Website at www.culturalcapital.us and submit it to info@culturalcapital.us. Applications should reach the IBOCC by midnight EST on May, 25.
Who should apply?
Any city in the USA with a population of more than fifty thousand inhabitants may submit an application to be the next US Capital of Culture.
Also, any state capital (including Washington DC,) with a population of fewer than fifty thousand inhabitants may submit an application to be the next US Capital of Culture.
Any municipality that wishes to submit an application to be the first US Capital of Culture in 2010 should request an application at the International Bureau of Capitals of Culture at the following address: info@culturalcapital.us
